Salary Range: $8,416.67 - $11,333.33 monthly DOE

This is a temporary, non-permanent position intended to provide interim support and does not guarantee continued employment beyond the defined assignment period.  The Interim Athletic Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire St. Francis High School athletic program in accordance with school policies and league regulations. Reporting to the Vice Principal of Student Support and working under the general oversight of school administration, the Interim Athletic Director ensures the smooth operation of all interscholastic sports, supervises and evaluates coaching staff, oversees eligibility verification, coordinates scheduling, manages athletic budgets, and serves as the school’s representative to relevant athletic organizations, including the C.I.F., C.A.A., and Mission and Angelus Leagues.

The Interim Athletic Director is not permitted to serve as a Varsity Head Coach and collaborates with faculty, staff, and administration to maintain a student-focused, mission-aligned athletic program.

Additional responsibilities include overseeing the summer sports program and collaborating with the Director of Facilities and the Event Manager to coordinate athletic facility use and maintenance.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills to manage, support, and evaluate a diverse group of coaches and athletic staff.
  • Exhibit strong communication and public relations abilities to effectively engage with students, parents, faculty, and athletic organizations.
  • Apply strategic problem-solving skills to handle scheduling conflicts, budget constraints, and compliance issues.
  • Implement sound financial management practices to oversee athletic department budgets, fundraising, and expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with all CIF, CAA, and league regulations while promoting a safe and positive sports culture.
  • Foster a commitment to student development, athletic excellence, and Franciscan values.
  • Build parent and community relationships that enhance athletic program engagement and fundraising.
  • Plan and supervise school-sponsored athletic events, ensuring continuous improvement and positive student experiences.
  • Maintain clear communication with the administration regarding emerging issues, policy updates, and opportunities for program enhancement.
  • Effectively manage athletic facilities and collaborate with the Facilities and Special Event Manager on planning and execution.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Sports Administration, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in athletics administration, coaching, or a related leadership role.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CIF, CAA, and league regulations governing high school athletics.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, supervising staff, and coordinating athletic events.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
  • DOJ fingerprint clearance required.
  • TB test required within 60 days of hire.
  • Virtus Training required within 90 days of hire.

Primary Job Duties


  • Ensure compliance with C.I.F., C.A.A., and school policies for all interscholastic sports.
  • Supervise and evaluate coaching staff and Athletic Secretary responsibilities.
  • Verify student-athlete eligibility in accordance with league and school guidelines while maintaining accurate records.
  • Coordinate game schedules with the master calendar and avoid exam conflicts.
  • Serve as the school’s representative at league, CIF, and CAA meetings.
  • Oversee logistics for game-day operations, including crowd control and event staffing.
  • Manage athletic department budget and oversee purchasing and inventory.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Facilities and Event Manager for facility use and maintenance.
  • Plan and manage athletic awards, seasonal banquets, and recognition efforts.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives with the Booster Club and host parent orientation meetings.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff on policy enforcement and program development.
  • Hire, onboard, and evaluate athletic personnel in collaboration with HR to ensure adherence to state and federal laws, CIF Blue Book regulations, and league requirements.
  • Coordinate transportation to and from athletic events.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
