Program Information:
Since its inception in the early 80’s, St. Francis Soccer has had an unparalleled run of success. Following the spirit reflected in the team’s motto, “The Team Comes First,” the Golden Knights have won ten league titles, three CIF Southern Section Championships (1996, 2001, 2003), and one State Regional Championship (2009).  In addition, the team has captured numerous tournament titles including the Ralph Brandt Burroughs tournament (four times), the Buena tournament (three times) and the prestigious Admiral Invitational in Florida. The team that won that tournament was named to the national top ten that season by the NSCAA. The Golden Knights participate yearly in the prominent Nike Invitational in San Diego. The team has always been awarded the NSCAA Team Academic Award several times.
In addition to the team successes, many individuals have garnered individual accolades. St. Francis Soccer has had three players named CIF Player of the Year: Peter Vagenas ’96, Ryan Shaw ’01, and Jeff Fawcett ’03.  More than forty Golden Knight Soccer players have gone on to play college soccer at schools including, UCLA, Stanford, LMU, and Cal State Fullerton.  Three former Golden Knights have been drafted by the L.A. Galaxy, two who have gone on to careers in MLS.
One of the most gratifying aspects of the program has been the large numbers of players who have returned to help coach at St. Francis. Over the past 28 years, over a dozen former players have been part of the coaching staff. Currently, Juan Fontenla ’93, Andy Burghdorf ’00, and Luca Coppola '13 assist Coach Glen Appels with the varsity team.
