Family Services
OVERVIEW
One of the hallmarks of the Capuchin Franciscan community has always been a strong spirit of family. To further this end, St. Francis established the Family Service Program. This was designed for a two-fold purpose, namely, to help parents get to know one another and to help the school by drawing upon their talents and resources. Each family is expected to provide twenty-five hours of service or specified supplies to the school. For single parent families, the
requirement is 12.5 hours. These service hours are performed by parents or other adults (siblings, friends or other family members). Projects and school needs will be published monthly in the Family Service Bulletin, an insert to the monthly Knights & Days newsletter. At year-end, participation of less than twenty-five hours will be billed at a rate of $15 per hour. This will be included in your final tuition payment or billed on a separate invoice. Service hours for senior parents must be completed by May 1, and for all other parents the deadline is May 15. Students will not be allowed to take quarter or semester exams if tuition or other fees are in arrears.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT THE ST. FRANCIS FAMILY SERVICES PROGRAM
One of the hallmarks of the Capuchin Franciscan community has always been a spirit of community/family. Naturally, we see this as an integral part of "who we are" at St. Francis High School. In order to further enhance this tradition, and to equitably distribute essential support and service, Saint Francis has a Family Service Program.
What is required?
Each family is required to fulfill 25 hours of service or an equivalent in kind of donated materials. The requirement for single parent families is 12.5 hours. In the case of single parent families, the parent who signs the contract is responsible for the service hours, but we encourage both parents to contribute hours in some way. This program seeks to involve all families in the many service activities at St. Francis. Families not wishing to bring their involvement to St. Francis through service or providing needed supplies may opt to buy out their assistance at the rate of $15 per hour or $375 for the upcoming school year.
What services count?
There are opportunities throughout the year to provide services.Your registration packet includes a Parent Opportunities Guide that gives you some ideas of the many services parents can provide. All types of work done for the school through the Mothers Guild, Boosters Club, Development Office, etc. will qualify.A monthly Family Service Bulletin will be sent by e-mail and included in your Knights and Days newsletter informing you of both services to do and supplies that are needed. In addition, we include a write your own proposal for those who are unable to work into an existing program. Flexibility is the key to this programs success.
How do I sign up for an activity?
It is your responsibility to call the chairpersons and sign up for specific activities. Even if you have signed up at a meeting or through the Parents Opportunity Guide, you must confirm with the chairperson that you will be working the event. The August packet will include a list of names of current chairpersons in the parent service organizations, names will be listed in the Family Service Bulletin, and you may contact the Family Service coordinator Tuesdays or Thursdays 9 A.M.1 P.M., extension 525 or fsp@sfhs.net, if you have any questions.
How will my services be credited?
In August, you will receive a coupon booklet. As you do any work at home (make phone calls, bake cookies, etc.) or provide supplies, you will include a coupon with your goods or give it to the chairperson in charge. We ask that you use the Sign In Sheet that will be available when there are school activities on the campus. These hours will be totaled throughout the year, and a balance of hours will be determined in May. Any remaining hours will be billed at $15 per hour.
What if I work over 25 hours in a year?
We recognize that many activities require support from parents beyond the 25 hour minimum. Parents may bank up to an additional 25 hours (12.5 hours for single parent families) to roll over to the following year for credit.
How does this relate to my Annual Fund Pledge, POSH and other Fundraising?
The financial base of St. Francis is built upon tuition and fees. However, this does not cover all of the goals that our Board has set forth in our strategic plan,Vision 20/20.These are addressed by your participation in our Annual Fund Pledge Program. Likewise, the Grand Raffle, POSH or Mini-POSH (annual fundraising events), Capital Campaign, and the Fall Student Fundraiser are also events designed to meet these goals for your son. Family Service hours will not cover your obligation to support these Development Department programs.
