Baseball Summary
Golden Knights win Chick’s Arcadia Elks Tournament - 03/10/08
The Golden Knights baseball team opened the season in the Arcadia Elks Tournament.
SF opened with a home game versus Cantwell Sacred-Heart (Montebello). Leading the way for the Knights was Ramiro Carreon (SR). Carreon, picking up the win, threw 5 innings, giving up 2 runs and offensively hit HR # 1 on the season. Brooks Burns (SR) - had two RBI’s to help give the Knights an 8-2 win.
The second game of pool play had the Knights traveling to San Gabriel HS, behind a strong performance from Corwin Doerning, 3 innings pitched, 0 Hits, the Golden Knights beat San Gabriel 25-0 and ran their record to 2-0 on the season.
SF played Duarte HS in the third game of pool play, AJ Berglund (SO) led the way. Berglund threw 4 innings, giving up 2 runs. Nick Petito led the way offensively, hitting a 2 run HR in the 4th. The Golden Knights went on to win 10-3 and advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament.
In the semis, SF would see La Salle HS. Once again, Carreon pitched 5 scoreless innings in picking up his second win of the season. The Knights were led offensively by Kyle Wong (SR), Garrett Salzman (SR) and JP Nolan (FR), all whom hit their first HR’s of the season in leading the Knights 7-3 and into the championship game of the tournament versus Temple City HS.
In the championship game, Nick Gentili threw a strong 6 innings, giving up two runs and getting a no decision. Corwin Doerning came in relief to pick up the win, but it was Chris Sember who came into the game with bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th inning, preserving a 3-2 lead to pick up the save. Burns hit an RBI double in the top of the 8th inning to give the Knights a 3-2 lead.
The Golden Knights open up Mission League play at Notre Dame HS - 3:30 on Tuesday 3/11 and then again at Brookside Park (Rose Bowl) on Friday 3/14 at 3:15.
