2008 Season Preview Coming off a 17-9 (overall) and 4-8 (league) record, where the Golden Knights missed the play-offs, expectations to get back to the post-season are high going into the upcoming season. Coach Esquival (1st year) returns 11 players from last year’s squad and with the talent coming up from the Junior Varsity, the season promises to be an exciting and successful one.
The Golden Knights will be competing for a top spot in the tough Mission League. Leading the way for the Golden Knights will be returning starters, Ramiro Carreon (Sr.) P-1B-DH, Kyle Wong (Sr.) SS, Mike Dean (Sr.) RF and Nick Gentili (Jr.) LF-P. Also coming back and looking to contribute this year will be Austin Heyworth – P/3B, Garrett Salzman – C, and Corwin Doerning –P. A couple newcomers to the varsity this year looking to fill voids and compete are A.J. Berglund (So.) - P, Jeff Johnson (Jr.) – 3B and Scottie Morrow (Jr.) – CF.
Golden Knights win Chick’s Arcadia Elks Tournament - 03/10/08
The Golden Knights baseball team opened the season in the Arcadia Elks Tournament.
SF opened with a home game versus Cantwell Sacred-Heart (Montebello). Leading the way for the Knights was Ramiro Carreon (SR). Carreon, picking up the win, threw 5 innings, giving up 2 runs and offensively hit HR # 1 on the season. Brooks Burns (SR) - had two RBI’s to help give the Knights an 8-2 win.
The second game of pool play had the Knights traveling to San Gabriel HS, behind a strong performance from Corwin Doerning, 3 innings pitched, 0 Hits, the Golden Knights beat San Gabriel 25-0 and ran their record to 2-0 on the season. Read more. |
