Pete Brang - Endowed Scholarship
- In June 2014, Pete will retire from St. Francis High School after forty-three years of service as Cross Country Coach, Social Studies Teacher, Dean of Students and Vice Principal. As a school community, we sought ways to pay tribute to a man who had dedicated so many years to Golden Knights and has truly exemplified Franciscan virtues in his many roles at St. Francis. Establishing an endowed scholarship in Pete's name allows us to honor him as well as provide opportunities for a St. Francis education, something Pete believes in so strongly, for young men whose families have financial need.
Rudy Trujillo Endowed Scholarship
- New York City had its Rudy; Notre Dame Football had its Rudy; but no one had a Rudy quite like St. Francis High School. The Rudy Trujillo Endowed Scholarship honors the legacy of Rudy's 47 years in Catholic education and 27 years of exceptional service to St. Francis High School.
General - St. Francis High School's general endowment fund serves two primary purposes. Its first initiative is to provide ongoing financial aid to deserving students who could otherwise not afford to attend the school. Secondarily, and on an as-needed basis, a percentage of the earnings from this endowment may be allocated to any unforeseen expenses that the school may incur (plant/facilities, etc).
Financial Aid - In our Strategic Plan, Refining the Vision, St. Francis High School seeks to develop strategies to recruit and identify Catholic students in public and private schools, particularly those in geographic regions with greater financial need. To that end, our general scholarship fund supports the needs of those Golden Knights who might not otherwise be able to experience a Catholic education of enriching the mind and heart. Generally, gifts made to benefit scholarship are awarded in the academic year in which they are received.
Alumni Scholarship - The St. Francis High School Alumni Association will award annual Scholarships to current St. Francis students who exemplify Franciscan values and live the code of the Golden Knight. These students excel academically, are actively participating in extracurricular activities, are involved in their local communities, and demonstrate financial need. Alumni Scholarships will be awarded based on the following guidelines:
Past Alumni History
Fr. Cyril Kelleher OFM CAP. Memorial Endowed Scholarship - As a lasting remembrance of his deep love for his ill wife, and for that of his Alma Mater, in the summer of 2011 Gene Hopp '57 presented St. Francis High School with a very generous gift to establish this endowed scholarship. On February 27th 2012 Gene's wife, Annette Langille, peacefully went home to our Lord. The establishment of this endowed scholarship, while important to our overall strategic plan of increasing financial aid, is one that will perpetuate the ideals and values presented to Gene and many other students by Fr. Cyril. He credits these values for allowing him to become a loving and caring husband, a man of great integrity and generosity, and instrument of peace for the world.
Gino Pierotti '98 Scholarship - Gino Pierotti '98 left an indelible mark on this world before God called him home in 2005. His death, while tragic, has taught us to love one another and give of ourselves, as we know not the time or place we too will be called home. Gino's loyalty and friendship, especially to those in need, will be forever remembered by his friends, family and classmates. In 2007 the Pierotti Family and friends established this endowed scholarship in Gino's honor, as a way to continue his legacy of help to those in need.
Brennan Newell '94 Scholarship - Brennan Newell '94 had a great "desire for discovery through an honest nature and true heart." The family and friends of Brennan, who passed away in a tragic accident in the Fall of 2000, have graciously funded this endowed scholarship since 2001. This scholarship is a unique opportunity available to junior and senior students that shares financial support as well as remembers Brennan's spirit.
Fr. Matt Elshoff, OFM Cap. '73 Endowed Scholarship - With his June 2008 election to Provincial of the Capuchin Franciscan Order of the Western Province, the Board of Directors of St. Francis High School and the school community sought a way to recognize Fr. Matt's leadership, compassion for the human spirit and his unwavering belief in Franciscan values. Creating an endowed scholarship in his name allowed us to recognize Fr. Matt for the many gifts he shared with St. Francis High School while he worked as a teacher, Campus Minister and later as President. It also allowed us to place student financial aid, something dear to Fr. Matt and his fellow Capuchins, as a high priority.
Assisi Pilgrimage - In our Strategic Plan, Refining the Vision, St. Francis High School will continue its tradition as a Catholic College Preparatory School, with the gospel of Jesus Christ and the life and teachings of St. Francis as the centerpiece for its educational philosophy. Beginning in 2009, students and faculty traveled to Assisi during Easter season to walk the roads traveled by Francis and Clare. By immersing themselves in the land of these two patron saints, our pilgrims come to better understand the Franciscan values, and in the process strengthen their relationship with God.
