Service Clubs
S.P.A.R.C. CLUBS To encourage the building of a campus-wide Christian community and to develop a sense of ministry in our students, St. Francis provides opportunities for Christian service. A faculty moderator facilitates S.P.A.R.C. (Students Participating in Apostolic Reachout Communities) Clubs which commit themselves to a particular ministry for the entire school year.
Lanterman Hospital Outreach Students spend a day with mentally and physically challenged patients, taking them to the park and interacting with them one-on-one. This is truly a life changing and challenging ministry, and an option for students who are 16 years of age and older.
Mission to Mexico Occasionally, a group of students visits the less fortunate in the hills outside of Tijuana, Mexico. Through this experience, students gain a real-life perspective of the challenges another culture faces. Despite tremendous challenges, students witness the power of faith through this mission
Hands of H.O.P.E. (Helping Out People Everywhere) Once a month, students assist the poor in the Los Angeles area through outreach to organizations such as Camp Max Strauss and other local area churches. Through this, students maintain contact with the less fortunate in our surrounding areas. This group also participates in fundraisers, such as walk-a-thons, to benefit Homebound Reachout, Pasadena Heritage, March of Dimes and similar organizations.
Club San Lorenzo Club San Lorenzo is about being "contemplative-in-action." As a prayer group, they pray together for the poor of the inner city. As an "action group" they organize food and toy drives for the community of St. Lawrence Brindisi parish, our Capuchin Franciscan parish in Watts. In conjunction with BOCA, this club has begun a coaching and tutoring program for our students to mentor the students of this inner city school.
